Robert T. Sharp, age 71, of Kanata Street, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, in his home.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1942, in Herkimer, the son of the late Albert and Lillian Blankenship Sharp. A lifelong area resident, Robert attended West Canada Valley schools. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam and the Air Force during the Gulf War. On Nov. 9, 1968, he married the former Donna Cristiano in Herkimer and shared a devoted union of 42 years until her passing on Dec. 12, 2010. Robert worked at Remington Arms as a machinist, retiring in 2002.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching TV.
Surviving are a daughter, Julie Sharp; a sister, Betsy Warren, of Mechanicsville; a granddaughter, Caitlin Sharp, and a grandson, George Watson, both of Middleville; friends, David McCluskey, of Middleville, and Donna LaFrance, of Little Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Jesse, Everett and James Sharp, and two sisters, Gladys Graham and Barbara Geissler.
Calling hours for Mr. Sharp will be held on Friday morning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Jill Farnham-Us officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Members of Herkimer VFW Post No. 4915 are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m. for ritualistic services.
