  • GIRLS' SOCCER: Top seed takes out Herkimer

  • UTICA, N.Y. — The Sauquoit Valley Indians are back in the Section III finals after beating Herkimer 3-0 in a Class C-1 semifinal Saturday on the turf at D’Alessandro Stadium.
    The top-seeded Indians (16-2-0), the section’s reigning overall Class C champions, led 2-0 at halftime and added a goal after the intermission in the meeting of Center State Conference division-winners. Sauquoit Valley finished first in Division III and Herkimer topped the Division II standings.
    Abbey Mielnicki scored two of the Sauquoit valley goals while Danielle Ricci had the other. Serena Kiss contributed two assists and Alyson Gaffney made three saves in the shutout.
    Chelsea Jory made 18 saves for Herkimer (12-5-1), the No. 5 seed.
