  • POLAND, N.Y. — Mikayla Blumenstock’s personal milestones added highlights to the Poland Tornadoes’ 5-1 win over the Oriskany Redskins in Section III’s Class D quarterfinals Thursday.
The first of Blumenstock’s four goals was the 100th of the sophomore’s varsity career and broke a tie for the school’s career record. Nicole Hennings, a 2006 graduate, scored 99 goals, a number Blumenstock matched with a hat trick when Poland defeated Old Forge 6-0 in its Oct. 16 regular-season finale.
Blumenstock scored three more times Thursday and now has 103 goals with the rest of this year’s postseason and two more years of scholastic play ahead of her.
Paige Sullivan scored the other gaol for top seed Poland (15-2-0) which led 2-0 at halftime. Kara Morris had two assists and Alyssa Lepper had one. Claire Lepper made one save in relief of starting goalie Courtney Green who had none.
Mackenzie Reed scored in the second half for Oriskany (9-7-1) and Breanna Bouska made 14 saves. Three of the Redskins’ seven losses this fall were against Poland.
Poland’s win, coupled with Cincinnatus’ 7-0 shutout of Brookfield, sets up a semifinal match between last year’s sectional finalists. Poland defeated Cincinnatus 5-3 in Chittenango last year on the way to winning a state championship.
CINCINNATUS, N.Y. — Danielle Wood scored four goals for Cincinnatus Thursday and the Lions, seeded third, earned a spot in Section III’s Class D semifinals with a 7-0 shutout of Brookfield’s Beavers.
Kasey Price added two goals and Kyleigh Eaton had three assists for the Lions (16-2-0) Susie Waltz made nine saves.
Brooke Terrier had eight saves for Brookfield (9-6-1).
Cincinnatus takes a 10-match winning streak into its semifinal match against Poland.
