Captain Richard Phillips, who inspired the recently released motion picture “Captain Phillips,” will visit MVCC’s Utica campus at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Attendees will hear first hand accounts of Phillips’ story of heroism and survival that inspired the film starring Academy Award winner Tom Hanks.
Phillips was captured by Somali pirates who hijacked his ship for five days in April 2009, the first hijacking of a United States ship in more than 200 years.
His presentation titled “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea,” will take place in the Schafer Theater in the Information Technology Building, as part of MVCC’s Cultural Series.
Admission is $30 for the general public, $20 for faculty and staff and free for MVCC students.
