  • Leona Burton, 89, of Flower Drive, Ilion, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Mohawk Valley Health Care in Ilion.
    Leona was born on March 29, 1924, in Ireland, Ind., the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Striegel) Mehringer. She was educated in Ireland, Ind., schools and during World War II she worked at Jasper Wood Products in Jasper, Ind., then later in her career she worked at National Desk, Standard Furniture. Leona retired from UNIVAC as a personal records clerk, dealing with pension and retirement in 1972. On Aug. 5, 1947 Leona married Carl Burton in Ilion.
    Leona was a member of the AARP. She enjoyed boating with Carl on their boat The Carle out of Sandy Pond.
    Leona is survived by her husband, of 66 years, Carl; two special cousins, Anna Mae Rupprschert and Thomas Hollar, as well as several other cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Arnold.
    In keeping with Leonas wishes funeral services will be private and there are no calling hours, interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park in New Hartford.
    Friends are asked to consider memorial donations in Leonas name to the American Heart Association.
