  • State police say the human remains found near Ithaca on Wednesday have been identified as those of a missing Syracuse man.
Brian Austin, who would have turned 41 this year, was reported missing in 2011, police said.
Results on the cause and manner of death are pending, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Austin's skeletal remains were located in a wooded area of Taughannock State Park in the town of Ulysses on Wednesday. The park is located about 10 miles north of Ithaca on the west side of Cayuga Lake.
State police and state park police said they worked with Binghamton University’s Anthropology Department to identify the remains.
