  • SCHOLASTIC SOCCER: Section III sets playoff seeds

  • SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Poland’s boys and girls have byes into the quarterfinals as they begin defense of their Section III championships from 2012.
    The Poland boys are the top seed for their Class D bracket while the girls are seeded second behind Copenhagen on their side. The girls will play at home Friday at 3 p.m. against either Hamilton or Oriskany. The boys play Friday against Lyme or Old Forge.
    Elsewhere in the girls’ field, Class C has the only split bracket for either gender. Little falls is seeded second in Class C-1 behind Sauquoit Valley and both teams will be home for Thursday quarterfinals; Sauquoit Valley against either Cato-Meridian or Immaculate Heart of Watertown, Little Falls against the winner of Tuesday’s match between Pulaski and Mt. Markham. Herkimer, seeded fifth, travels to Thousand Islands for its match Thursday.
    Dolgeville is seeded sixth in Class C-2 and plays at Morrisville-Eaton Thursday.
    Frankfort-Schuyler drew the final spot among 13 Class B teams and will play Tuesday at Skaneateles.
    Central Valley Academy’s girls venture into new territory in Class A as a No. 2 seed behind only Jamesville-DeWitt. The Thunder is home for its first playoff match against either East Syracuse-Minoa or Homer.
    The Central Valley Academy boys are an 11 seed and play at Cortland in the opening round Tuesday. Herkimer, seeded eighth in a single Class C bracket, has a match at home Wednesday against Thousand Islands. No. 11 Mt. Markham plays at Syracuse’s Bishop Ludden Wednesday with the winner advancing to the Class C quarterfinals against No. 3 West Canada Valley Friday.
    Owen D. Young’s boys, seeded fourth, begin the Class D playoffs at home Wednesday afternoon against Tyburn Academy.
