  • Two men were arrested earlier this week after alleged attempts to set a jewelry store on fire, according to Herkimer police.
Christopher Snyder, 23, of Utica, and Joseph Baker, 19, of Little Falls, were charged with second-degree attempted arson and fourth-degree criminal mischief, police said.
Herkimer police received a call on Oct. 14 regarding criminal mischief at Weisser’s Jewelers storefront at 240 N. Main St.
An investigation revealed in the early morning hours of Oct. 13, two individuals were pouring an oil substance in front of the building and several attempts were made at igniting the substance, police said.
The building also contains an occupied apartment on the second story.
Baker and Snyder were remanded to Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bail bond.
