  • My name is David Brown, Season 15 contestant on the NBC show The Biggest Loser, and it will be my honor to be blogging for TVGuide.com each and every week of the season. The objective for me here will be the same as it was on the ranch, to be as open and authentic to the process as possible, and to share my thoughts and fears and triumphs in hopes they impact others seeking to positively change something in their own lives. I will say right up front, it will be the hardest thing you will do, but I promise you this, it will be worth it.
This season is all about second chances. I certainly needed a second chance at life, health, and keeping a promise I had made to my first wife Andrea. The first step for me was hearing about an open casting call and deciding to actually do something about it. I later told my family it took an insane amount of courage for me to even go to the open casting call, and seemed to set into motion a chain of events that eventually landed me in Los Angeles as one of 50 finalists. This season was different in the way the trainers had a vote in which contestants made the show. One of the things I will never forget when sharing my story with these trainers was thinking that there was so much I had obviously not dealt with in losing my first wife, but knowing I was also stronger than my story would indicate. I hoped the trainers saw my strength amidst my story.
As a big fan of the show, I knew what to expect, or at least I thought I did. When I got to the ranch, the surroundings were familiar but strange. I had such a pit in my stomach walking up the path toward the gym for the very first time, with the growing anticipation of what was about to happen to me. As much as you think you are prepared for that very first workout, the reality was, I had no idea what a real workout was. My body literally gave out after an hour and a half of working out with Bob, Dolvett, and Jillian. I couldn't even respond to Jillian when she asked me to. I felt so helpless in that moment, I wondered if I would be able to make it through the first full week.
Page 2 of 2 - When Dolvett chose me for his Red Team, I was ecstatic. I had connected with him the most in my preliminary workouts, and felt like his style of training matched up well with me. More than that, Dolvett saw something in me and told me so. In the trainers' interview, he said he saw my inner strength, and the first time we worked out together, he echoed that again. It was very important for me to be matched with a trainer who saw my strength despite my sad story, and Dolvett was that guy. I know if anybody here will be able to get the most out of me, it will be Dolvett, and I will be here weekly to share how it all unfolds.
