Members of the Albany Diocese Past Regents Chapter of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas met for the fall business meeting and luncheon on Sept. 14 at the Church of St. Peter’s Parish Hall in Saratoga Springs. Host court for the event was Court McLaughlin No. 422 in Saratoga.
President Anne Senecal from Court McLaughlin called the meeting to order. Seventeen members from Court St. Bridget No. 265 in Ilion, Court Stella Maris No. 396 in Schuylerville, Court McLaughlin, Court Mary Regis No. 638 in Albany, Court Catherine Esther No. 1264 in Canajoharie and Court St. Martin DePorres No. 1648 in Colonie attended the meeting.
Senecal called on Marion Zrelak from the Albany court to report on the plans for Memorial Mass on Saturday, Oct. 19, at St Mary’s Church in Albany. Zrelak stated the hymns had been chosen and she will have prayer cards printed for the occasion. State Treasurer Emma Lou Smith will serve as reader for the Mass and will present the New York State Seminary check to Bishop Hubbard after Mass. Since there were no volunteers to serve as color guard, flag and banner bearers, it was decided to dispense with them and have the flag and banner already posted in the front of the church. Zrelak will serve as the ceremonial coordinator and welcome all at the start of Mass.
Zrelak also reported on her findings as to what Bishop Hubbard would like most as a retirement gift. She found his preference would be a donation to one of his three pet charities, either Hope House, the Priest Retirement Fund or Community and Maternity Services. After discussion it was decided to make a donation to Hope House in his name. It was also decided to give the annual PR charitable donation to the Priest Retirement Fund in his name. DeLynn Wickham from the Colonie court volunteered to make a certificate with this information to present to the bishop.
Arrangements for the luncheon at the Hilton after Mass were also discussed. Secretary Marlene Nalli from the Canajoharie court will contact the restaurant about centerpieces for the tables, a podium and a table for the raffle prizes. Smith will serve as speaker at the luncheon. Wickham will make the programs so all information should be sent to her and she will send proofs to officers for final approval. Shirley Tellstone from the Saratoga court will be in charge of the door prize raffle with Wickham assisting her. Nalli added the charity raffle tickets would be sold at the luncheon before winners are drawn.
The president asked for suggestions on when and where to hold the spring 2014 meeting. Possible dates to conduct the meeting were discussed and suggestions were made on where to have the meeting. Mary Farrell suggested she contact the court in Salem and ask if they can host the meeting and would pass possible dates in April by them. Senecal stated she would contact Whitehall to see if they are interested in hosting the Memorial Mass next year. If not, she will choose another site before the spring meeting.
