  • BOYS' SOCCER: Tornadoes win tourney title

  • POLAND, N.Y.†ó Mark Hennings scored the first goal for Poland Sunday and assisted on two others as the undefeated Tornadoes won the Poland Columbus Day Tournamentís championship with a 2-0 shutout of the Holland Patent Golden Knights.
    Henningsí goal came on a header off Nick Kattatoís corner kick 6:12 into the match. Holland Patent would tie the score five minutes later with a Dylan Blier goal assisted by Nick Finn but the Golden Knights would go scoreless the rest of the way against Mitch Jones who made three saves.
    Hennings, the tournamentís most valuable player, assisted on goals scored by Ross Agen and Dustin DuBrule for the 15-0-0 Tornadoes. Agen was selected as the tournamentís outstanding offensive player.
    Daniel Dygert made six saves for the Golden Knights.
    Holland Patentís Michael Shepard was the outstanding defensive player, Remsenís Sebastian Bullard was the outstanding goalkeeper, and DeRuyter received the sportsmanship award.

    POLAND, N.Y.†ó The Remsen Rams and DeRuyter Rockets played to a 1-1 draw Sunday in the consolation match at the Poland Columbus Day Tournament.
    Mike Both scored for DeRuyter and Andrew Cacciatori had a goal for Remsen.
    Sebastian Bullard mad 10 saves for Remsen while Robert Cuddeback had four for DeRuyter.
