  • Three people were charged early Friday morning after they were caught jacklighting deer in the town of Floyd, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the area of Soule and Edwards roads shortly after 2 a.m. after a resident there reported hearing two shots fired outside their home. Deputies stopped a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Morgan Weiler of Floyd and, after interviewing her, determined she and three men had been using a spotlight to hunt deer, deputies said.
Deputies and state police were able to locate two of the men — 22-year-old Joshua Tanner and 25-year-old Alan Tanner, both of Floyd, in the woods. They later determined that Joshua Tanner had fired from inside a vehicle at a deer in a field just off the roadway, deputies said.
All three were charged with sixth-degree conspiracy and several Environmental Conservation citations. The case is still under investigation, deputies said.
