Katherine “Kay” E. LaBonte, age 73, of Johnnycake Road (town of Stark), passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday morning, Oct. 12, 2013. Her family was at her side.
Kay was born on Aug. 27, 1940, in Utica, a daughter of the late Louis and Mildred (Havens) Eck. She graduated from Utica schools and attended the Utica School of Cosmetology. Her last employment was with the Little Falls-Fonda Bus Company in St. Johnsville.
She was a member and past president of the Mohawk Crowley Barnum American Legion No. 25 Ladies Auxiliary and the Stittville Fire Department Auxiliary, also having served as president. Kay was also a member of the Whitesboro Seniors and Miniature Club of Utica. Kay was an avid bingo player.
Surviving Kay are her sons, Daniel L. Taylor and his wife, Deborah, and Thomas J. Taylor; two special grandchildren, Nicholas J. and Anthony S. Taylor; a brother, Thomas J. Eck and wife, Mary, of Utica; an aunt, Barbara Havens, of Poland; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, particularly Cliff Davies and Pat Chrzan. Kay was a proud and nurturing foster mom for 39 children, including Amanda and Meghan Smith, Gina Marquez, and Samantha Jones.
Kay was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Jack and Donald Eck; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Arthur Cooley; and two sisters-in-law, Marie and Elizabeth.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (town of Frankfort) (894-8000). Members of the Mohawk American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. to conduct their service. Kay’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial in Crown Hill Memorial Cemetery, Paris Road, Clinton, will immediately follow the service.
