  • The Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce is participating in Decorate the Empire State.
The Chamber is seeking ornament submissions representing Fulton County to be selected for the New York State Capitol Holiday Tree.
Gina DaBiere-Gibbs, director of tourism for Fulton County, was recently contacted by curatorial services in the Empire State Plaza, the department coordinating Decorate the Empire State. According to the correspondence she received, “Every year, the New York State Capitol features themed Holiday Trees. This year’s theme is ‘Decorate the Empire State!’ We are reaching out to each New York State county and requesting a donation of holiday ornaments that best represents their county.”
Two categories of ornaments are being accepted: art and history.
“We will be collecting ornaments from local artists and historic sites or societies that may already have an ornament to donate. Each ornament submission should represent Fulton County in the best possible way. Two ornaments from each category of art and history will be selected to represent Fulton County on the state’s tree, which means a total of four ornaments will be sent for inclusion. We encourage all to participate,” said DaBiere-Gibbs.
All students, amateur and professional artists are invited to participate in the first all-county effort to create original ornaments for the official New York State Holiday Tree at the Capitol in Albany. The ornaments should be any medium, three-dimensional, no more than approximately ten inches in diameter, weigh no more than five ounces, tree-ready with hanging hardware attached, and delivered to the Chamber in an appropriate mailing container. Artists should be living in the county for which they submit their work. Submissions are due at the Chamber by Oct. 15, to allow time for judging and delivery to Albany. The winning ornaments once delivered to the state Office of General Services, will become the property of the state. The use of these gifted ornaments is subject to change at any time, as may be determined to be in the best interests of the state.
Ornament submission forms must accompany the ornament and may be acquired at the office or by calling 518-725-0641.
Ornaments not selected for the State Holiday Tree will be showcased on the Chamber’s Holiday Tree in their Gloversville office.
