  • For the fifth consecutive year, the Mohawk Valley Choral Society has awarded scholarships to several senior high school students from Herkimer and Oneida counties.
The scholarships allow the students to join the choral society at no cost and to receive weekly vocal lessons from a professional vocal teacher.
This year’s scholarship winners are Aaron Barnett, from Central Valley Central School; Johnna Bernard, from Central Valley Central School; Hayley Brown, from Herkimer Central School; Julia Gardner, from Central Valley Central School; Mackenzie Lynch, from Central Valley Central School; Haley Servidone, from Herkimer Central School; Hannah Wagner, from West Canada Valley Central School; and Logan Winder, from Central Valley Central School.
The students were winners in this year’s scholarship competition, in May, where they each sang a solo selection in front of judges from the Mohawk Valley Choral Society.
The students have appeared on the stages of their high schools and whose future plans include majoring in music education, studying integrated media, studying music therapy or working in the music industry.
Any high school student in the 2014 - 2015 school year and who is interested in competing for these scholarships should consult with their school’s vocal teacher or contact the Mohawk Valley Choral Society directly from the website at www.mvchoral.org.
