  • Travel advisory issued for Bass Pro Shop opening

  • The New York State Department of Transportation’s Utica Regional Office has issued a travel advisory for motorists due to Wednesday’s grand opening of Bass Pro Shop in Riverside Center.
    The opening is expected to draw thousands of additional people to the Riverside Center area in North Utica, according to a news release.
    As a result, state Routes 5, 8, and12 and Thruway Exit 31 in Utica will experience higher than normal traffic volumes.
    The DOT, Thruway Authority, state police, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and the Utica Police Department will have signs in place to guide motorists to the event sites and parking facilities.
    Motorists are urged to be alert and use caution when traveling through the area during the grand opening and to pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, including traffic signals, signs and electronic variable message signs, according to the news release.
