  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Herkimer gets win against Central Valley Academy

  • EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — A doubles sweep led the Herkimer Magicians to a 3-2 win Tuesday over the Central Valley Academy Thunder.
    Viktoria Yudchits won in straight sets at second singles and the Jamie Vincent-Jessica Wiegand tandem did the same at second doubles for Herkimer. Maxine Grogan and Rachel Roberts, ordinarily the Magicians’ first and second singles players, teamed up in doubles play and defeated DaniLynn Engert and Kacey Visser in three sets, 7-5, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4.
    Kelly North and Abby McCann were straight sets winners in singles play for Central Valley Academy.
    HERKIMER 3, CENTRAL VALLEY ACADEMY 2
    Singles
    1, Kelly North (Central Valley Academy) defeated Anna Huhko (Herkimer), 6-3, 6-0.
    2, Viktoria Yudchits (Herkimer) defeated Brooklyn Goff (Central Valley Academy), 6-4, 6-0.
    3, Abby McCann (Central Valley Academy) defeated Adiba Ward (Herkimer), 6-1, 6-4.
    Doubles
    1, Maxine Grogan and Rachel Roberts (Herkimer) defeated DaniLynn Engert and Kacey Visser (Central Valley Academy), 7-5, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4.
    2, Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand (Herkimer) defeated Amanda Dahl and Brandy Torres (Central Valley Academy), 6-2, 6-2.

    CLINTON, N.Y. — The Sauquoit Valley Indians completed a sweep of Clinton Tuesday and clinched the Center State Conference title with a 4-1 win over the Warriors.
    Ella Brutsky, Dana Bever and Tanya Brutsky won in straight sets in singles play for the Indians and Kira Baran and Isabella Arrigo won a doubles match.
    Shannon Cherpak and Carly Sinclair were winners in three sets at first doubles for the Warriors.
    Sauquoit Valley (14-1) leads Clinton (12-3) by two matches in the standings with one to play.

    3, Tanya Brutsky (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Rebecca Williams (Clinton), 6-3, 6-1.

    1, Shannon Cherpak and Carly Sinclair (Clinton) defeated Maiah DeGironimo and Rena Topor (Sauquoit Valley), 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
    2, Kira Baran and Isabella Arrigo (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Esther Mazor and Claire Lashinger (Clinton), 6-1, 7-5.

    LITTLE FALLS 1
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — Westmoreland’s singles players all won in straight sets Tuesday and the Bulldogs defeated the Little Falls Mounties 4-1.
    Lindsey Cornacchia, Gabrielle Duell and Alyssa Bowers all won 2-0 in singles play for Westmoreland which also got a doubles win from Bailey Hryb and Roksolyana Thachuk.
    Trisha Shaffer and Sienna Caracane won a second-set tie-breaker to complete a 2-0 doubles victory against Blake Crandall and Olivia Merrill.

    1, Lindsey Cornacchia (Westmoreland) defeated Elaine Zawtocki (Little Falls), 6-4, 6-4.
