  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Magicians end season with win

  • EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — The Herkimer Magicians swept singles play and won at first doubles Thursday to close their regular season with a 4-1 victory over Holland Patent’s Golden Knights.
    Maxine Grogan, Rachel Roberts and Anna Huhko all won in straight sets in singles play — Roberts lost one game, Huhko none — and the team of Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand won its doubles match 6-2, 6-3.
    HERKIMER 4, HOLLAND PATENT 1
    Singles
    1, Maxine Grogan (Herkimer) defeated Laura Panzone (Holland Patent), 6-4, 6-4.
    2, Rachel Roberts (Herkimer) defeated Jennifer Zielinski (Holland Patent), 6-0, 6-1.
    3, Anna Huhko (Herkimer) defeated Lindy Callihan (Holland Patent), 6-0, 6-0.
    Doubles
    1, Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand (Herkimer) defeated Bethanne Torraco and Emily Wuest (Holland Patent), 6-2, 6-3.
    2, Ashley Parent and Isabelle VanPatten (Holland Patent) defeated Viktoria Yudchits and Adiba Ward (Herkimer), 6-3, 6-2.
    Records — Holland Patent 4-12; Herkimer 6-10.

    LITTLE FALLS 2
    LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Sauquoit Valley Indians capped a 15-1 regular season Thursday by beating Little Falls 3-2 at the Veterans Memorial Park courts.
    The Indians had clinched the Center State Conference championship one day earlier with their 5-0 win against Holland Patent. Sauquoit Valley swept two matches from second-place Clinton which finished 13-3.
    Ella Brutsky, Dana Bever and Tanya Brutsky, Sauquoit Valley’s singles players, all won in straight sets in Little Falls, losing a combined total of eight games.
    Both Little Falls doubles teams were victors. Sienna Caracane and Lindsey Tolman beat Maiah DeGironimo and Rena Topor 6-2, 6-1 and Alyssa Hyney and Emilee Burleigh were 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 winners against Isabella Arrigo and Hayley Carchedi.

    3, Tanya Brutsky(Sauquoit Valley) defeated Trisha Shaffer (Little Falls), 6-0, 6-0.

    1, Sienna Caracane and Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls) defeated Maiah DeGironimo and Rena Topor (Sauquoit Valley), 6-2, 6-1.
    2, Alyssa Hyney and Emilee Burleigh (Little Falls) defeated Hayley Carchedi and Isabella Arrigo (Sauquoit Valley), 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

    CENTRAL VALLEY ACADEMY 2
    ILION, N.Y. — The Westmoreland Bulldogs edged Central Valley Academy 3-2 Thursday.
    The Bulldogs top two singles players — Gabrielle Duell and Alyssa Bowers — and No. 2 doubles team of Kayla Wren and Roksolyana Thachuk all won in straight sets.
    Abby McCann, playing third singles, won a three-set match against Sabrina Christensen by scores of 6-1, 1-6 and 6-0. Kelly North, ordinarily the No. 1 singles player for Central Valley Academy, teamed with Kacey Visser to beat Olivia Merrill and Bailey Hryb 6-2, 6-4 in doubles play.
