  • GIRLS' SOCCER ROUNDUP: Herkimer tops Cooperstown in overtime

  • COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Maddie Renshaw scored midway through the second overtime period Thursday and the Herkimer Magicians defeated Cooperstown 2-1.
    Each team scored a goal in the first half and they remained tied at 1 through the end of regulation and the first 10-minute overtime period.
    Herkimer (5-3-1, 5-1-0 CSC-II) took the initial lead on a goal scored by Ashley Fahy with an assist from Lillie Williams 7:42 into the match. Cooperstown tied the score when Liz Millea netted her goal four minutes before halftime.
    Caitlyn Roorda assisted on Renshaw’s goal which came at 94:52. Herkimer won in overtime for the second time in three nights; the Magicians were 1-0 winners at home Tuesday against Frankfort-Schuyler.
    Chelsea Jory made 12 saves in Thursday’s shutout and Katie Kleban had 11 for the Hawkeyes.
    Herkimer plays at home Saturday against Westmoreland. The start time has been switched from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    FRANKFORT, N.Y. — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights came out on top 3-2 in another close match with the Dolgeville Blue Devils.
    The teams had played to a tie earlier this season in Dolgeville.
    Danielle Migliore had a goal and an assist for the Maroon Knights (3-7-1) and Alexis Bianchi and Simone Palumbo each tallied a goal. Cassandra Grippe made 14 saves.
    Sarah George scored both goals for Dolgeville (4-6-1) and Katie Millard made 12 saves.
    Dolgeville plays at Remsen Saturday. Frankfort-Schuyler’s next match is Monday at Little Falls.
    HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. — Teigha Ward scored both Central Valley Academy goals Thursday in the Thunder’s 2-1 win over the Holland Patent Golden Knights.
    Nicole Wren and Michelle Arthur each had an assist on one of Ward’s goals for the Thunder (8-1-0). Taylor Moquin (four) and Alicia Ceneviva (six) combined to make 10 saves Central Valley Academy.
    Morgan Roller scored for the Golden Knights (4-8-0) and Nikki Lupia-Eannace made 18 saves.
    The Thunder takes on Adirondack Monday in Mohawk.

    REMSEN, N.Y. — Elisha Hamilton and Brittany Waterbury had hat tricks Thursday in the Remsen Rams’ 9-0 win over Oriskany.
    Waterbury added two assists to her three goals, Hamilton had one and goalkeepers Mieka Scott and Nitalia DeGristina combined to make 11 saves in the shutout. Joleen Marfone and Hailey Murray each had a goal and an assist for the Rams (8-1-0), Emily Devenezia scored a goal and Brook Green had an assist.
    Breann Bouska made eight saves and Anna Buehler had nine for Oriskany (5-5-1).
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — Breanna Carnegie scored a goal in the first half and Michaela Carnegie made eight saves Thursday as the Mt. Markham Mustangs shut Westmoreland out 1-0.
    Page 2 of 2 - Valerie Spencer also made eight saves for winless Westmoreland (0-11-0).
    The Mustangs (4-5-2) play at Hamilton Saturday.
