  • GIRLS' SOCCER: Unbeaten Mounties notch ninth shutout

  • NEWPORT, N.Y. — Kelli Shepardson and Maria Morotti each scored two goals Thursday in the Little Falls Mounties’ 6-0 win at West Canada Valley.
    Morotti also assisted on one of Shepardson’s goals for the undefeated Mounties (12-0-0, 7-0-0 CSC-II) who are ranked 10th in the state in Class C and earned their ninth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Cheyenne Rivenburg made 12 saves in the win.
    Morotti and fellow freshman Casey Baumeister scored unassisted goals three minutes apart in the first half to give Center State Conference Division II-leading Little Falls a 2-0 lead at the break. Morotti scored again with an assist from Miranda Marchese 1:43 into the second half then assisted on Shepardson’s first goal six minutes later. Sarah Bruins added an unassisted goal, her team-leading 16th of the season, in the 69th minute and Shepardson capped the scoring with a goal assisted by Allison Harris.
    Goalies Olivia Bolton (nine) and Kara Pepin (five) combined to make 14 saves for the Indians (2-9-0, 0-6-0 CSC-II).
    Little Falls plays at home Monday against Frankfort-Schuyler. West Canada Valley travels to Cooperstown Monday.
