EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — Tucker Vogt broke a tie with a header late in the second half Wednesday and the Herkimer Magicians beat Westmoreland 2-1.
The teams were tied at 1 at halftime and remained deadlocked into the 77th minute when Colin Acker took a free kick. Vogt played the ball off a bounce and headed it into the net with 3:42 left in regulation play.
Herkimer (4-6-1) struck first in the first half. Dan Netti got the ball in the box and worked past a defender who fell; he then shot waist-high off the inside of the post.
Westmoreland (5-6-0) tied the scored nine minutes later with a long shot by Andrew Zimmerman that eluded goalkeeper Austin Perry’s fingertips in the upper left corner.
Perry made six saves for the Magicians. Acker assisted on both Herkimer goals.
Zach Dunning had five saves for Westmoreland.
The Magicians are home Friday for a 4 p.m. match against Old Forge.
