  • Robert L. Mullenax, Sr., 78, of state Route 167, died at home on Sept. 30, 2013.
    Mr. Mullenax was born on June 13, 1935, in Norwich, a son of the late Robert and Vivian (Aiken) Mullenax. He received his education at West Canada Valley Central School. In 1953, he entered the U.S. Navy, where he served for a brief time during the Korean War. Bob was first married to the former Dorothy Snyder and in early years was employed at Engert's Lumber, formerly of Herkimer. From 1966 to 1991, he worked at the former Chicago Pneumatic in Utica. On Aug. 19, 1996, he was united in marriage with Marie Balducci at their home in Little Falls.
    Bob enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, hunting, fishing and watching professional wrestling.
    Survivors besides his wife, Marie, include 10 children, Debbie (Rich) Mullin, of Ilion, David (Connie) Richards, of Oklahoma, Darlene Grainer, of Little Falls, Chris (Norm) Arruda, of Verona, Charlene (Frank) Link, of Dolgeville, Penny (Jed) Rannels, of Oklahoma, Russ (Linda) Mullenax, of Middleville, Becki (Juan) Reyes, of Ilion, Brenda Higgins (Scott Custer), of Ilion, and Rodney (Jessica) Mullenax, of Little Falls; a half sister, Eileen Beagle, of Earlville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Rosco. Robert was predeceased by a son, Robert, Jr., and by two brothers, Mike, Sr. and Donald.
    Funeral services will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jill Farnham-Us, hospice chaplain, officiating. Interment will follow in Newport Cemetery where military honors will be conferred by the U.S. Navy. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
