Sitrin will conduct its second annual Stars and Stripes Run and Walk on Saturday, Oct. 5, at SUNYIT in Marcy.
The event will feature a 5K run, 5K wheelchair race and two-mile walk.
Individuals and teams, including businesses and community groups, are invited to walk or run in honor or in memory of a loved one who has served the country.
The entry fee for the run and walk is $25 per person. Each registrant will receive a commemorative dog tag. Incentives will also be available for those raising $125, $250, $500 or $1,000. The $25 registration fee will count toward incentive levels. Additionally, there will be awards for top male and female runners, and top fundraising teams and individuals.
Those interested in participating may register at www.sitrinstarsandstripes.com or at the SUNYIT Campus Center between 8 and 9 a.m. on the day of the event. All participants, including those who pre-registered, must check in at the registration desk with completed forms and donations during that time.
The day’s activities will also include a military-themed obstacle course for children and adults, and an adaptive sports symposium for wounded warriors in the Campus Center. Though the symposium is designed for people with physical disabilities, everyone is welcome to take part. Instruction and hands-on training will be offered in the areas of wheelchair basketball, simulated biathlon, archery and simulated horse riding.
Proceeds will support Sitrin’s military rehabilitation program, which provides comprehensive care for wounded warriors who have post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, post-acute substance abuse and other combat-related conditions.
In support of Feed Our Vets, a nonprofit food pantry organization that provides nutritious food to local veterans in need, consider bringing a nonperishable food item to the event.
