COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties broke ties twice in the second half Saturday and beat Cooperstown 3-1 to keep their perfect record intact.
The match was scoreless at halftime and Cooperstown countered the first Little Falls goal with one of its own. Maria Morotti broke the 1-1 tie with a goal assisted by Nicole Foti and added and unassisted goal with 11 minutes left to play to help secure the win for the Mounties (10-0-0).
Foti got the scoring started with a goal off a Morotti corner kick. Morotti played the ball across the mouth of the goal and Foti bodied it into the net.
Maggie Hall scored the Cooperstown goal and pulled the Hawkeyes even at 1. Hall’s goal was the third scored against Little Falls this season.
Morotti scored the go-ahead goal off a cross from Foti who had carried the ball down the right side of the field. Morotti scored again when she broke out of the midfield and shot as she crossed the 18-yard line.
Morotti was one of three freshmen — along with Caira Miles and Casey Baumeister — who started for the Mounties whose lineup was depleted by injuries and illness.
