  • BOYS' SOCCER ROUNDUP: Wolves win in Sharon Springs

  • SHARON SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Wolves scored five times before halftime in Wednesday’s 6-1 victory over the Sharon Springs Spartans.
    Devan Battisti scored three goals and a had one assist for Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville (3-3-1). Dylan Klock and Triston Engle each had a goal and an assist and Andrew Hart scored a goal.
    Tyler Bianchine scored for Sharon Springs with an assist from Mason Handy in the second half.
    Nate Trumble had four saves for the Wolves and Donovan Roberts made 11 for the Spartans.
    Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville plays the second half of Saturday’s homecoming doubleheader against Duanesburg at Soldiers and Sailors Park. The girls are scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. with the boys’ match to follow.
    HERKIMER 1, FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER 0
    FRANKFORT, N.Y. — Austin Perry made 11 saves and stopped a penalty shot as Herkimer’s Magicians defeated Frankfort-Schuyler’s Maroon Knights Wednesday and earned their second consecutive 1-0 shutout.
    The Magicians (3-5-1) beat Camden on the same score Monday.
    Zoltan Csoknyay broke a scoreless tie with a goal assisted by Colin Acker 7:41 into the second half. Csoknyay also had the lone goal in the Camden match.
    Frankfort-Schuyler (0-8-1) had a chance to take a lead in the first half when a handball gave Vincent Spataro a penalty kick. Perry stopped the shot and the score remained at zeroes.
    Jared Vu started in goal for Frankfort-Schuyler and made five saves. Jerry Pritchard later made two saves.
    The Maroon Knights will play a match Saturday morning in Westmoreland while Herkimer is off until Monday’s match against Poland.
    OWEN D. YOUNG 5, LITTLE FALLS 0
    SPRINGFIELD CENTER, N.Y. — Matthew Cristman notched his second hat trick of the season Wednesday in the Owen D. Young Wildcats’ 5-0 win against Little Falls.
    Cristman also scored three goals Sept. 3 when the Wildcats defeated Little Falls to open the season.
    Jeffrey Yaun and Dustin Monk each scored a goal for Owen D. Young (6-1-0) which was coming off its first loss of the season. Bradlee Edick had an assist and Andrey Drozdov made one save.
    Cole Douglas had 10 saves for Little Falls (0-5-1) which trailed 4-0 at halftime.
    The Mounties play Friday in Cooperstown. Owen D. Young plays Saturday evening at Cherry Valley-Springfield.
    CANAJOHARIE 3, DUANESBURG 2, overtime
    DELANSON, N.Y. — A last-minute Duanesburg goal sent Wednesday’s match into overtime and Logan Sala’s second successful penalty kick gave the Canajoharie Cougars a 3-2 win over the Eagles.
    The victory was the first this season for the Cougars (1-6-0). The match was tied at 1 at halftime and 2 at the end of regulation.
    John Iverson score the Duanesburg goal that forced overtime. Teammate Mikkel Roade had scored in the first half for the Eagles who had trailed 1-0.
    Page 2 of 2 - Zachary Beam opened the scoring with a goal on a first-half corner kick for Canajoharie. Sala’s first goal put the Cougars up 2-1 in the second half.
    Zachary Young made 14 saves for Canajoharie which was outshot in the win. Brett LaBelle had nine saves for Duanesburg (0-5-2).
    The Cougars take on Sharon Springs at home Friday.
    SCHOHARIE 5, FORT PLAIN 0
    SCHOHARIE, N.Y. — The Schoharie Indians scored four goals in the second half and pulled away in Wednesday’s 5-0 win over the Fort Plain Hilltoppers.
    James Sackett scored two goals for the Indians who led 1-0 at halftime. Devon Brooks and Rich Martin each had a goal and an assist and Chris O’Neill scored a goal. Justin Montione made 11 saves in the shutout.
    Robert Thomas made five saves for the Hilltoppers (2-6-0).
    Fort Plain is home for Friday’s match against Mekeel Christian Academy.
