  • NEWPORT, N.Y. — The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils scored two goals early in the second half and built a cushion on their way to a 4-0 win over the West Canada Valley Indians.
    Leading 1-0 at halftime, the Red Devils (7-3-0) got a goal from Francesco Spoletini 55 seconds after the break and another from Brandon Hilts seven minutes later to go up 3-0. Jon Fewer added a goal in the final minute.
    Logan Mumford had scored the initial goal for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill in the fourth minute of play. Justin VanDuLuitgaarden made 12 saves in the shutout.
    Michael Sternberg had 11 saves for West Canada Valley (5-2-0) which matched its guests with 14 shots.
    The Indians are home for Friday’s match against Holland Patent.
