In its effort to support the communities it serves across upstate New York, National Grid has provided economic development funding to the Montgomery County Industrial Development Agency to conduct a regional branding and marketing program.
National Grid’s $40,000 grant will help fund the IDA’s marketing program designed to produce a cohesive identity about the region for use by local businesses, government, residents, tourism and community groups.
“An effective integrated brand contributes to a stronger economic base, higher property values, diverse and sustainable employers, visitor attraction and citizen retention”, said Ken Rose, executive director of the Montgomery County IDA, in a news release. “We think this process will give Montgomery County and the surrounding area a competitive edge in the attraction of business and investment to the area. National Grid’s matching grant program made the investment possible.”
National Grid’s Strategic Economic Development Outreach Program is part of its overall upstate New York Economic Development commitment. The grant provides funding to leverage additional business attraction research, marketing and sales efforts. The goal is to assist local and regional economic development organizations to increase their marketing and sales capacity and generate out-of-state prospects for direct investment in National Grid’s upstate New York service territory.
“National Grid is committed to supporting the communities that we serve,” said National Grid Regional Executive Director William Flaherty in the release. “Our grant constitutes a strategic investment in Montgomery County’s economic future and a vote of confidence in our economic development partner, the Montgomery County Industrial Development Agency.”
“Everyone who lives and works in Montgomery County will have an opportunity to share his or her perspective,” said Jackie Meola, economic development specialist for the Montgomery County Business Development Center, in the release.
As a result of their initial Vision Survey released in August, North Star is now conducting a customized community-wide online survey. The questionnaire has been crafted to determine Montgomery County’s strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities. All who live and work in Montgomery County are encouraged to participate in the initiative. The survey can be found on http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MontgomeryCommunitySurvey. Surveys may be completed online and submitted electronically. Printed surveys will also be available at the MCBDC, 9 Park St., Fonda. Surveys must be completed and submitted by Monday, Sept. 30.
