HAMILTON, N.Y. — Two days after suffering its own first loss of the fall, Hamilton/Morrisville-Eaton knocked Owen D. Young’s Wildcats from the ranks of the undefeated with Monday’s 2-1 win.
The match was tied at 1 at halftime. Brian Meeks, who had assisted on Dakota Thomas’ goal in the first half for Hamilton/Morrisville-Eaton (5-1-0), delivered the go-ahead goal with a shot from beyond 30 yards and goalkeeper Tyler Curtis preserved the win by making six saves.
Thomas’ goal gave the home team the initial lead. Owen D. Young (5-1-0) pulled even on Matthew Cristman’s deflection of a direct kick taken by Dustin Monk.
Andrey Drozdov was credited with one save for the Wildcats.
Despite its 2-1 loss Saturday to Poland, Hamilton/Morrisville-Eaton moved up from eighth pace to fifth in the New York State Sportswriters Association’s Class C poll which was released earlier Monday. Poland remains No. 2 in Class D behind Chazy.
Owen D. Young is home for Wednesday’s match against Little Falls.
