  • GIRLS' SOCCER ROUNDUP: Central Valley Academy loses its battle of unbeatens

  • CLINTON, N.Y. — The Clinton Warriors were 1-0 winners against Central Valley Academy in Tuesday’s showdown between Center State Conference Division I unbeatens.
    Hannah Shankman netted the lone goal in the first half for Clinton (5-0-0). Shankman’s goal was unassisted and Marissa Cornelius earned the shutout with six saves.
    Keepers Alicia Ceneviva and Taylor Moquin combined to make 11 saves for the Thunder (4-1-0).
    Central Valley Academy next plays at Canastota Oct. 1.
    POLAND 7, OLD FORGE 1
    WEBB, N.Y. — The Poland Tornadoes scored six goals before halftime of Tuesday’s 7-1 win over the Old Forge Eskimos.
    Mikayla Blumenstock had three goals and one assist for the Tornadoes (5-1-0). Keara Blumenstock added a goal and an assist, Shiane Irwin, Paige Sullivan and Tara Seigle each scored a goal and Alyssa Lepper contributed an assist. Goalkeeper Courtney Green made three saves.
    Briana Brownsell scored in the first half for Old Forge (3-2-1) and Shelby Egnaczyk made 17 saves.
    The Tornadoes play at home THursday against Sauquoit Valley, the only team that has beaten them this season. The Indians, Section III’s reigning Class C champions, were 2-1 winners over the Class D state champions Sept. 9. Poland has won each of its five matches since then.
    COOPERSTOWN 5, DOLGEVILLE 2
    COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Liz Millea had three goals for Cooperstown’s Hawkeyes in Tuesday’s 5-2 win over the Dolgeville Blue Devils.
    Jordian Siver and Bella Anania each added a goal for the Hawkeyes (4-1-0) and Maggie Hall and Sarah Jane Morosko each had an assist. Katie Kleban made six saves.
    Sarah George scored both goals for Dolgeville (1-5-1), one unassisted and one with an assist from Emilie Lewandowski. Morgan Randall was credited with seven saves.
    Dolgeville takes on Old Forge at home Thursday.
    FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER 4, WEST CANADA VALLEY 2
    FRANKFORT, N.Y. — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights broke away from a halftime tie Tuesday and defeated West Canada Valley’s Indians 4-2.
    Each team had one goal at halftime.
    Simone Palumbo scored two goals and assisted on a third for the Maroon Knights (2-4-1). Danielle Migliore added a goal and an assist, Alexis Bianchi scored a goal and Marsala Bono had an assist. Cassandra Grippe made eight saves.
    Alexys Bolton and Joelle Ceneviva scored for West Canada Valley (2-6-0) and Olivia Bolton made seven saves.
    Both teams play at home Thursday, West Canada Valley against Waterville and Frankfort-Schuyler against Adirondack.
    TROY-CATHOLIC CENTRAL 5, OPPENHEIM-EPHRATAH-ST. JOHNSVILLE 0
    ST. JOHNSVILLE, N.Y. — Troy’s Class A Catholic Central Crusaders were 5-0 winners Tueday against the Wolves of Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville.
    The Crusaders, who finished last fall with one loss and a No. 11 state ranking in Class B, got a goal and three assists from Madison Purcell, two goals and an assist from Alexis Riffenbach, and one goal each from Lauren Drake and Kyle Koberger. Kelly Stanton and Annette Volpe each made three saves.
    Page 2 of 2 - Catholic Central peppered the goal with shots and the Class D Wolves’ keepers responded with 24 saves.
    Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville (5-3-1) plays at home Thursday and Saturday. Thursday’s match against Middleburgh was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday’s contest against Duanesburg is the first half of a homecoming doubleheader.
    SAUQUOIT VALLEY 1, MT. MARKHAM 0
    SAUQUOIT, N.Y. — The Sauquoit Valley Indians used a second-half goal Tuesday to defeat the Mt. Markham Mustangs 1-0.
    Nakeya Stedman scored for for the Indians (5-1-0) with an assist from Kelly Brennan. Alyson Gaffney made just one save in the shutout.
    Machaela Carnegie recorded nine saves for the Mustangs (2-4-1).
    Mt. Markham is home for Thursday’s match against Cooperstown. Sauquoit Valley plays at Poland Thursday.
