A local parolee was arrested last week while police were searching for a different person wanted on an arrest warrant, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said.
Members of the sheriff’s office, the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Oneida County Drug Enforcement Task Force responded to a residence on state Route 26 in Lee on Thursday while attempting to locate a person wanted on a Utica City Court warrant, deputies said.
While there, the officers met Nathaniel Garrett, 30, who was on parole. They also located a semi-automatic pistol magazine, which led to a search warrant, which led to a 9mm semi-automatic pistol being located inside the residence, deputies said.
The suspect wanted for the original warrant was not located, but Garrett was taken into custody on unspecified charges and sent to Oneida County jail.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional details were released as of Tuesday, deputies said.
Members of New York State Parole, and the Utica, Rome and New Hartford police departments assisted at the scene.
