  • Police in central New York have identified the remains of an infant found in the Mohawk River as that of a 9-month-old who has been missing since June.
Police said Saturday DNA testing by the Onondaga County medical examiner’s office confirmed the remains recovered Sept. 6 belong to Levon Wameling.
The Observer-Dispatch of Utica reports the cause of death hasn’t yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
On June 11, the boy’s 27-year-old father told police he hadn’t seen Levon since May 29.
Jevon Wameling told police then that Levon disappeared after he had to crawl into a window to unlock a door. He said that he had left the infant unattended briefly on the front porch.
Police have since conducted several searches across the area.
