Gary Anthony Omerzu, age 70, passed away Sept. 14, 2013.
He was born on March 19, 1943, in Little Falls. Gary spent his childhood in Dolgeville and attended Dolgeville High School, where he graduated in 1962. After he graduated, he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College and worked for many years at Mohawk Data Systems in Herkimer. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge No. 0796 of Dolgeville. He was a member of the Stanhope United Methodist Church in Netcong, N.J.
Gary loved animals and was an avid gardener and woodworker. He enjoyed spending time in the Adirondacks, Old Forge, where he would take his family camping and fishing. Gary also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sherry.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Rudy Duga and Mary Spaulding Duga. He leaves his wife, Sherry Omerzu, of Buckingham County, Va.; sister, Meg Duga, of Dolgeville; brother, Jan Duga, of Salisbury; daughter, Kristin Omerzu Rhodes, of Allentown, Pa.; son, Marc Omerzu, of Yarmouth, Mass.; stepsons, Jeffery Rhodes, Philip Rhodes and Andrew Rhodes; four grandchildren, Andrew J. Rhodes, Corlista Rhodes, Timothy Omerzu and Nikolas Gary Omerzu; one niece, Elizabeth Duga, of Dolgeville; and three nephews, Stephan Duga, of Dolgeville, and Tim and Kevin Murphy, of Ilion.
There will be a small memorial service for Gary at his home on Oct. 19, 2013. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
