Gathering in observance of a half century, the Little Falls High School Class of 1963 celebrated together on Aug. 10 at Little Falls Elks Lodge No. 42. Fifty-six members and guests assembled to reminisce about school days 50 years ago. Thirty-one of those present were classmates.
The school colors of purple and white were used freely in pre-banquet announcements and registration forms and a sharp contract was noted in the addition of gold, which dominated the hall.
Each member, upon entering, received a pin with his or her yearbook picture. A banner symbolizing 50 years hung above display tables to memorialize deceased members, 16 in all, and a second table displayed pictures from previous reunions and memorabilia.
A tribute poster to Athos Schuck, foreign exchange student from Brazil, was displayed with updates of his life.
Each table was decorated with a vase of shaded purple flowers with touches of gold and purple ribbons, along with a printed program that included the commencement program from 1963 and a favor keepsake.
Allen Miller, class president, was master of ceremonies and opened dinner with a prayer, remembering classmates, acknowledging notes from absent members and sharing memorabilia.
Miller kept the program moving with trivia games, followed by a basketball shoot featuring “star” athletes Fred Chlus, David Suits and Betty Kllc Obrien.
The 63s, a group who first performed at the senior banquet in 1963, sang a medley of songs from the 1960s, which included “Surfin’ USA,” “A Teen-ager in Love” and “Little Deuce Couple.” Group members were Allen Miller, John Prestopnik, Paul Sadlon and Fred Teall. They can be seen on Youtube under Prestopnik. There was also a rendition of “Bobby’s Girl” by Joanne VanGorder, Laura Lee Stoddard and Marie Ng.
Door prizes were awarded and class members rose to sing the alma mater. A release of balloons outdoors paid tribute to departed class members.
The reunion committee members included Allen Koziol, Rocco Lamanna, Donna Schofield and Joanne VanGorder.
