  • SCHOLASTIC FOOTBALL: Cazenovia pulls away from CVA

  • CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — The Cazenovia Lakers scored 28 straight points Saturday to break open a close game and defeated the Central Valley Academy Thunder 49-20.
    Quarterback Kevin Hopsicker’s one-yard touchdown run broke a tie before halftime. The Lakers (2-0, 2-0 B East) added a score in the third quarter and two more in the fourth to go up 42-14.
    Hopsicker threw for three touchdowns and ran for two. His 27-yard touchdown pass to Alex Devine opened the scoring and a 39-yarder to Ryman Seeley completed it. His 40-yard run gave Cazenovia a three-touchdown lead early in the fourth quarter.
    Andrew Vogl ran for two touchdowns and scored on a 10-yard pass from Hopsicker.
    Tyler Brown’s 80-yard run answered the first Cazenovia touchdown but the Thunder (1-1, 1-1 B East) failed on its conversion try and trailed 7-6 in the opening period. Mykel Farley ran 16 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Travis Mead ran in the conversion to tie the at 14.
    Farley scored again in the fourth quarter on a 32-yard pass play from Matt Klosner.
    Central Valley Academy is home Friday for a game against winless Camden. Cazenovia plays Thursday against Marcellus.
