  • Memorial awards presented at Herkimer County Fair

  • There are three memorial categories awarded in the Dairy and Livestock Show each year at the Herkimer County Fair.
    Bud Johnson Memorial Awards: There are two Bud Johnson Memorial Awards. One goes to a Beef Show Grand Champion bred and owned by the owner and the other goes to Open Dairy whereby a cow must be Grand Champion and Best Bred and Owned of Breed.
    The winner of the Bud Johnson Memorial Award was Alexis Wall of St. Johnsville with a Grand Champion Hereford Cow. Competition was a Grand Champion Hereford Bull also by Alexis Wall and a Grand Champion Dairy Market Steer by Sam Donahoe of Frankfort.
    The winner of the Open Dairy Bud Johnson Memorial Award was Paul Johannssen of Mohawk, with his Holstein named Dithmarsia Black Ice Lara. Eligible animals included a Guernsey named June Bug of Hillside owned by Megan Johnson of Frankfort, an American Milking Lineback named B-Line Dor Max Sydney owned by Anna Becker of Mohawk.
    Mike Mosher Memorial Awards: There are two Mike Mosher Memorial Champion Livestock Cups. One goes to Open Livestock and the other goes to Youth Livestock. Both are in honor and memory of former livestock superintendent, Michael Mosher of Little Falls.
    The Mike Mosher Memorial Champion Livestock Cup was judged by Jacob Conwell. Competitors were Carrie Weeks of Mohawk with a Champion Meat Goat, Aaron and Sarah Hardy from Jordanville with a Champion Sheep and a Champion Beef. Aaron and Sarah Hardy from Jordanville won with their Champion Beef.
    The Mike Mosher Memorial Champion Livestock Cup for Youth Livestock Show was judged by Mackenzie Waro of Cooperstown. The winner was Corey Puritan of Mohawk with a Champion Beef. Competitors were Warren Hapeman of Little Falls with a Champion Meat Goat and Corey Puritan of Mohawk with a Champion Sheep.
    Gordon Donahoe Memorial Best Udder of the Dairy Show Award that is given to the overall best uddered cow of the show. Paul Johannssen of Mohawk won with his Holstein named Dithmarsia Black Ice Lara.
    Best udders by breed are:
    Ayrshire - Moy-Ayr Harmony Miley by Melissa Hawkins from Newport;
    Brown Swiss - Jonlee Rombo Fornside Dynah by Sam Donahoe from Frankfort;
    Guernsey - June Bug of Hillside by Megan Johnson of Frankfort;
    Holstein - Dithmarsia Black Ice Lara by Paul Johannssen of Mohawk; and
    Jersey - Woodmohr Goal La Duke by Melissa Hawkins of Newport.
