Griffiss International Airport has been awarded $449,100 from the U.S. Department of Transportation to upgrade taxiway lighting at the facility, Rep. Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld, announced.
The funds were awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration.
“I am pleased that Griffiss International Airport received this much-needed grant assistance to increase visibility and safety at the airfield,” said Hanna, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, in a news release. “Aviation plays an important role in the Mohawk Valley’s economy and at the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome.
“This grant will help keep pilots and passengers in Oneida County safe during their travels.”
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente thanked Hanna for his continued support for the airport.
Last week, Hanna announced $5.5 million in federal funds for runway and hangar improvements at the facility.
