  • BOYS' SOCCER ROUNDUP: Poland wins meeting of 2012 league champions

  • POLAND, N.Y. — One year ago, both teams were league champions. Now they are competing in the same division.
    Poland’s Tornadoes got the jump on West Canada Valley Tuesday with a 4-0 shutout of the Indians. Mitch Jones made five saves to keep West Canada Valley off the board and Mark Hennings had three goals and an assist to lead the attack for the Tornadoes.
    Mike Sypolt also scored for Poland (2-0-0) and Dustin DuBrule and Ross Agen each had an assist.
    Michael Sternberg made eight saves and Andrew Conte had four for West Canada Valley (2-1-0).
    West Canada Valley plays on the road Thursday at Little Falls and Poland travels to Westmoreland.
    SPRINGFIELD CENTER, N.Y. — Ryan Crouse had two goals for Owen D. Young Tuesday and the Wildcats defeated Mt. Markham’s Mustangs 5-1.
    Matt Cristman added a goal and two assists for the Wildcats (2-0-0) who led 3-1 at halftime. Cole Covney and Tyler Werperchowski each scored a goal and Bradley Edick had two assists. Andrew Drozdov was credited with five saves.
    Brady Wheelock scored in the first half for Mt. Markham (1-3-0). Mike Gras made 10 saves as the Mustangs were outshot 28-14.
    The Wildcats play on the road Thursday at Remsen. The Mustangs have a 10 a.m. match at home Saturday against Hamilton.
    FRANKFORT, N.Y. — Elijah Morris and Dan Galvez scored two goals each Tuesday and led the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders to a 4-0 shutout of Frankfort-Schuyler’s Maroon Knights.
    Morris also had an assist, as did Skyler Gold and Kevin Vibbard. Keith Rose earned the shutout with seven saves for the Marauders.
    Ethan Ruszala made eight saves for Frankfort-Schuyler.
    The Maroon Knights are home Thursday for a match against Canastota.
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — The Westmoreland scored three times in the first half Tuesday on the way to a 4-1 win over the Herkimer Magicians.
    Morgan Rolewicz had two goals and one assist and Erik Harris and one and two for the Bulldogs (2-1-0). Josh Drake also scored a goal and Stephen Cosco contributed an assist. Goalie Zach Dunning made 12 saves.
    Tucker Vogt scored in the second half for Herkimer (1-2-1). Austin Perry was credited with 20 saves.
    Herkimer plays on the road again Thursday at Old Forge.
    BOONVILLE, N.Y. — Gabe Garrastazu scored two goals for Adirondack Tuesday and the Wildcats defeated Central Valley Academy’s Thunder 4-0.
    The Wildcats (2-1-1) led 1-0 at halftime and also got goals from Elliot Hernandez and Gavin Merriam. Kyle Swiecki, Zach Merriam and Ryan Dellerba contributed assists and Sage Bailey made eight saves in the shutout.
