Middle school and high school students in the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District were evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a bomb threat found in a bathroom.
Superintendent Gayle Hellert said the threat was found written on a bathroom wall in the early afternoon and students on the middle-and-high-school campus were evacuated to the elementary school campus just before 1 p.m. based on district protocols.
Police later swept the school and determined it was clear, Hellert said. All students were dismissed from the elementary campus, however, because it was too late to resume classes at that point. All after-school activities also were cancelled.
Parents were notified of the incident by "robo-call" and school is expected to resume normally Friday, she said.
A homecoming parade and pep rally originally scheduled for Thursday night had already been rescheduled to Sept. 27 due to weather and were not afffected by the cancellations.
