Mr. Irving E. "Junior" Boyer, 77, of 425 Bingham Mills Rd., Stratford (town of Salisbury), died Thursday evening, Sept. 12, 2013, at his residence after an extended illness. He was comforted with the love and support of his wife and family at the time of his passing.
He was born in Salisbury Center on Feb. 11, 1936, the son of the late Irving and Maggie (Walrath) Boyer, Sr. and attended Dolgeville and Stratford schools.
His marriage to Carol Slater took place on July 8, 1961, in the Presbyterian Church in Dolgeville, Rev. Percy Dolling, pastor, performed the ceremony.
Junior, as he was known, was employed as a heavy equipment operator in construction for many years, retiring in 1978 due to his health. Howard Darling Logging last employed him. He was also known as Mr. Fix It with small engine repairs at his home.
He personally enjoyed camping with his family and he loved animals, especially his dogs. He was a member of the Curtis Cornerstone Chapel in Salisbury.
Surviving is his wife Carol of 52 years; his sons and their wives, Jeffery and Tammy Boyer, of California, Brian and Tessa Boyer, of Salisbury, Daniel and Donna Boyer, of Stratford, and Gregg and Rebecca Boyer, of Lake Pleasant; a daughter and her husband, Pam and Doug Vedder, of Stratford; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; a special great-granddaughter, Destiny Daley; a brother-in-law, Herbert Rockwell, of Ilion; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Harrigan, of West Winfield. Also there are several nieces and nephews. His brothers, Leroy, Howard and Kenneth, and his sisters, Beatrice Daley and Lillian Boyer, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Curtis Cornerstone Chapel with Rodney Congdon officiating. Burial will follow in the Stratford Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at 4 p.m. at the church.
