  • Mrs. Edna Cora (McGowan) Rockwell, age 93, a longtime resident of Stratford, wife of the late Everett Rockwell, passed away, surrounded by her abundant loving family, on Monday morning, Sept. 9, 2013, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.
    She was born in Stratford on Nov. 19, 1919, the daughter of James and Maude (Daley) McGowan, and was a graduate of Stratford school, class of 1936, with a Regents diploma.
    Her marriage to Everett Rockwell took place on Nov. 9, 1939, in the Methodist Parsonage in Salisbury Center. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Merrill Brown. Mr. Rockwell predeceased her on Feb. 12, 1981.
    Mrs. Rockwell had been employed by the former Leta Shoe Company and the Daniel Green Company, both of Dolgeville. She retired from the Van Allen Nursing Home as an aide several years ago.
    She was a member of the Stratford Methodist Church, the Stratford and Oppenheim Senior Citizens and the Stratford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening for flowers and vegetables, and especially enjoyed camping with her family.
    Surviving are her sons and their wives, Brian and Priscilla Rockwell, of Stratford, Everett, Jr. and Debra Rockwell, of Stratford; her daughters and their husbands, Dawn and Earl Youker, of Stratford, Norma and Charles Turner, of Oklahoma, and Shirley and Donald Vedder, of Stratford; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; along with several great-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville. Rev. Lynn Lockwood, pastor of the Stratford Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Round Top Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
