  • FIELD HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Mounties defeat Canastota for first win of season

  • CANASTOTA, N.Y. — Sydney McCarthy scored one goal and assisted on another for Little Falls Thursday and the Mounties defeated the Canastota Raiders 3-2 for their first win of the season.
    Sara Reardon and Christina Deshene added goals for the Mounties (1-1-0) and Teddi Fallis contributed an assist. Kristi Torres recorded for saves in goal.
    Kelly Mason and Josie Sgarlata were the goal-scorers for Canastota (0-2-0). Nicole Delaney made five saves.
    Little Falls plays at home for the first time Monday against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.
    NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. — The Mt. Markham Mustangs started their 2013 season strong Thursday by shutting out New York Mills 4-0.
    Goalie Amanda Otis made five saves for the Mustangs in the win. Claire Ladlee scored two goals and Hayley Young had a goal and an assist. Lizzy Jones scored a goal and Bryn Hoover contributed an assist.
    Amanda Maciol made nine saves and Jordyn Beach had one for New York Mills (0-2-0).
    Mt. Markham is home Monday for a game against New Hartford.
    SAUQUOIT, N.Y. — Morgan Talma had two goals and an assist for Sauquoit Valley Thursday in the Indians’ 4-2 win over Central Valley Academy.
    Maria Orsino and Samantha Critelli each added a goal for the Indians and goalie Erika Parker made seven saves.
    Makayla Donato scored one goal for Central Valley Academy and assisted by the other which was scored by Madeline Kenny. Sam Urich was credited with six saves.
    The Thunder plays a game Saturday at Section II Gloversville.
