  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Waterville earns first win against CVA

  • ILION, N.Y. — The Waterville Indians defeated Central Valley Academy 3-2 Thursday and claimed their first victory of the season.
    Megan Eastman and Madyson Bridge won for Waterville in singles play and the doubles team of Brooke DiMare and Alexis Easton sealed the team’s victory by winning in three sets. DiMare and Easton outlasted Brandy Torres and Amanda Dahl to win 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
    Kelly North, Central Valley Academy’s No. 1 singles player, came back from a 4-1 deficit in the second set to close out a 6-3, 7-5 win against Indian Autumn Fallon. The Thunder doubles team of DaniLynn Engert and Kacey Visser beat Sydney Jones and Chloe Keating 6-2, 6-1.
    The Thunder plays at Little Falls Friday and has a match at home Monday against Canastota.

    2, Brooke DiMare and Alexis Easton (Waterville) defeated Brandy Torres and Amanda Dahl (Central Valley Academy), 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

    LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties swept through Thursday’s match with Canastota, winning 5-0 at the Veterans Memorial Park courts.
    Singles players Elaine Zawtocki, Sienna Caracane and Lindsey Tolman lost a total of three games and all won in straight sets for the Mounties. Zawtocki, playing first singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Elizabeth Simonelli and Alyssa Hyney won their matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Samantha Ackerman and Trisha Shaffer completed the sweep with their win in first doubles play.
    The Mounties play at home again Friday against Central Valley Academy then travel to play at Herkimer Monday.

    1, Samantha Ackerman and Trisha Shaffer (Little Falls) defeated Juli Palamara and Anna Mason (Canastota), 6-3, 6-2.
    2, Elizabeth Simonelli and Alyssa Hyney (Little Falls) defeated Alexis Ezman and Alyssa Rapasadi (Canastota), 6-0, 6-0.

    EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — The Clinton Warriors overcame a pair of three-set losses Thursday and defeated the herkimer Magicians 3-2.
    Clinton’s Nos. 2 and 3 singles players, Olivia Kodsy and Carly Sinclair, won in straight sets, as did the No. 2 doubles team of Esther Mazor and Claire Lashinger.
    Page 2 of 2 - Herkimer’s wins came from Maxine Grogan its No. 1 singles player, and the top doubles team of Viktoria Yudchits and Jessica Wiegand. Grogan dropped her first set against Shannon Cherpak but came back to win the match 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Yudchits and Wiegand went to a third set after losing a tie-breaker in the second against Laura Hopkins and Rebecca Williams; a win in another tie-breaker yielded a 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) victory.
    The Magicians play at home again Monday against Little Falls.
