  • Barbara Ann Mosny, 68, of New Hartford, passed away at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on July 14, 1945, in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Stanley and Helen Murphy Gaworecki. She graduated from Little Falls Central School in 1963 and SUNY Albany in 1976, with a degree in elementary education and history.
Barbara married Daniel Mosny on Aug. 19, 1967 and they shared a happy marriage of 46 years. Barbara’s first position was teaching fourth grade at Waterville Central Elementary. After a period of raising her family, she continued her working career at Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and United Healthcare for 25 years.
She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Barbara took great pleasure in taking care of her family, with family values being a main priority for her. She devoted many years caring for her mother later in life. In addition, her sons and grandchildren were her greatest concern. She was known for her great cooking and baking skills and enjoyed having family and friends at her home for every holiday. She was also known for her meticulous house and beautiful decorations during all seasons of the year. She also loved to tend to her gardens around her home. Barbara had a special bond with her granddaughter, Meara; they were best friends and Barbara took great pleasure in listening to her sing. She loved having her grandson, Peter, at her house and enjoyed playing games with him. Barbara’s positive attitude and infectious smile were a great example to those around her.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel; children, Daniel S. Mosny and his wife, Kate Morehouse, of New Hartford, Michael Mosny, of Boston, and Mark Mosny and his wife, Heather, of Herkimer; grandchildren, Meara and Peter Mosny, stepgrandchildren, Justin and Alexis Swieton; sisters, Nancy Schisa, of Syracuse and Helen Cardinale and her husband, Norman, of Utica; brother, Stanley Gaworecki and his wife, Barbara, of Houston, Texas; and nieces and nephews, Craig Cardinale, John Schisa, Andy, Michael, Laura, Joey and Allison Gaworecki.
The family extends a sincere thank you to Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in New York City and Slocum Dickson for their care and compassion during her battle with cancer.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. On Tuesday, there will be a private Interment at Crown Hill Memorial Park.
Family and friends may consider donations to The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, 132 W. 32nd St., New York, NY 10001, in memory of Barbara Mosny.
