The Herkimer ARC’s Heart & Sole 5K Run on Saturday, Sept. 7, will affect traffic from 9 to 10 a.m. in the East Herkimer area. The run is scheduled to start at the agency’s Senior Center at 219 Pine Grove Rd. in Herkimer, across from Herkimer Elementary School.
“We wanted neighbors to know that some of the side streets will be closed while runners are participating in our 5K. Gros Boulevard will be opened, but we caution motorists to be careful when passing runners,” said Herkimer ARC Events Director Tony Vennera in a news release. This year’s run was moved to East Herkimer due to early summer flooding in the village and damage to the traditional course.
All runners who register after Aug. 31 pay $20. Additionally, day of event registration will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Cash awards will be presented at a post-race ceremony to the top overall male and female winners, with plaques given to the first male and female finishers and certificates to second and third place winners in various age groups, including 10 and younger to 60 and older. All registered runners will be eligible for prizes. Refreshments will be served before and after the 5K. Run event entertainment will include a live remote and music by KISSFM 105.5.
Proceeds from the Heart & Sole Awareness 5K Run will help support people with disabilities and unfunded and underfunded programs at the Herkimer ARC.
