  • Cornell Cooperative Extension plans Sept. 26 workshop

  • HERKIMER — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County will offer an Introduction to Managing Your Woodlot workshop at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in East Herkimer.
    The featured speaker will be Andrew Drake, state Department of Conservation forester in Herkimer County. Drake began working with the DEC in 2006 with a bachelor’s in environmental science and forestry from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. He has experience in timber inventory and sales and also documentation of invasive species on private and public lands.
    Drake will speak on the history of New York’s forest lands, current threats to forests, the importance of stewardship and the role of the forester.
    Registration is free of charge but be call Cornell Cooperative Extension at 866-7920 or email herkimer@cornell.edu by Monday, Sept. 23, to reserve a space.
    Registrants will be put on a waiting list if the seating capacity has been filled.
