UTICA — In 2005, the therapeutic recreation department at St. Luke’s Home created a fundraiser that helps residents who lack personal funds be able to enjoy recreational activities.
On select Wednesdays throughout the summer, they began selling a hot dog, chips and soda for $2, freshly grilled outside of the residential facility.
Since its inception, more than $10,000 has been raised.
The funds provide residents with activities ranging from hair care services to community outings, as well as to purchase personal items such as CD players or craft supplies.
Even now, the price has stayed the same and the fundraiser is going strong. Sales are scheduled for Wednesdays, Aug. 28 and Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside of St. Luke’s Home at the Center for Rehabilitation and Continuing Care Services, 1650 Champlin Ave., Utica. The public is invited for lunch.
