A Herkimer County man was killed Monday afternoon when his motorcycle struck another vehicle on state Route 5, Little Falls police said.
Jodi Willett, 33, of Ingham Mills, was eastbound on Route 5 at about 2:51 p.m. Monday when he struck a Ford SUV that pulled out in front of him from state Route 169, police said. The second vehicle was driven by Thomas Gillette, 67, of Lyons Falls.
Willett suffered serious injuries after striking the driver’s side rear door of Gillette’s 2009 Ford with his 2002 motorcycle, and was airlifted to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Gillette was not injured.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Witnesses told police a third vehicle may have witnessed the crash, but the driver left the scene before police arrived. Anyone with information on the third vehicle is asked to call Little Falls police at 823-1122.
The state police Accident Reconstruction Team from Oneida, the Little Falls Fire Department, Herkimer County Emergency Service Coordinator Robert Vandawalker and Mercy Flight assisted at the scene.
