  • Alex Band, the lead singer of the band The Calling, says he was abducted by two men and beaten over the weekend in Lapeer County, MI, Us Weekly reports.
As first reported by TMZ.com, Band, 32, told authorities in Lapeer City that he was walking from his hotel to a nearby mini mart between 3-4 a.m. Sunday when a blue minivan pulled up next to him. Band says two men abducted, assaulted him with a police baton and held a gun to his head while demanding his "Hollywood money."

Band then told his assailants, "Don't kill me as I am about to be a dad." His captors then said, "We don't kill fathers," and robbed him before dropping him off at a different location near train tracks.
Another member of the band noticed that Band was missing later that morning and assembled a search party. Band was found sometime later. Band was then transported to the emergency room where he was treated and eventually released. He suffered a fractured lower spine, a cut on his chin that required 15 stitches, three broken teeth and bruising to his side and stomach. Police are currently investigating the attack.

"I never thought my unborn child would be my savior," Band said in a statement. "I am grateful to be alive and I know that I am destined for bringing my music back to my fans." Band also denied that drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the incident. "I take my rehabilitation very seriously. I was near death due to this unbelievable situation and the rumors are categorically false."
The Calling, best known for the 2001 hit "Wherever You Will Go," went on an indefinite hiatus in 2005 but announced on Aug. 15 that they were reforming to put together a new album. The band performed together at the Lapeer Days music festival just hours before Band was attacked.
