Frank A. Pietropaoli, of Wildwood Crest, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 13, 2013.
Frank A. Pietropaoli was born on March 17, 1929, in Little Falls, son of Angelo and Lucia Pietropaoli, and brother to Richard, Mary and Gino. After completing his Little Falls public school education, Frank enrolled in Union College, Schenectady, where he studied modern languages. Almost immediately on graduation from Union College in 1951, he was drafted into the Army, where he served in the Counter-Intelligence Corps. Sometime after his release from the Army, Frank enrolled in The Catholic University of America School of Librarianship to pursue a course in librarianship. During this period, in 1961, he met and married Nancy McCann. After receiving both of their degrees, they went to Europe, where Frank obtained a position at the Air Force Base Library in France, where he remained for about one year. On returning to the U.S., he obtained a position as assistant director at Jarvis Library in Rome, where he remained for about three years. Wishing to return to a larger city, Frank obtained a position with the Smithsonian Institution Libraries in Washington, D.C., and was fortunate and honored to be in charge of the libraries for three major museums: The National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of History and Technology and the National Air and Space Museum. He retired in 1987 and, the following year, they moved to Wildwood Crest, N.J., where they had their summer vacations. Frank was Democratic committeeman for the second district of Wildwood Crest and a clerk for the Board of Elections. He was formerly active in the Assumption Parish and was on its parish council and a member of the church choir.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; by his loving children, Cecilia, Thomas and Anne; by his sister, Mary Quattrini, of Little Falls; by his beloved grandsons; by his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Pietropaoli, of Little Falls; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Assumption Church, 7100 Seaview Ave., Wildwood Crest, N.J., where friends may call from 10 a.m. in the church. Burial services will be held Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, Little Falls.
