  • An Onondaga County couple is facing felony charges after scamming almost $500,000 out of contractors and businesses while building the Diamond Dreams at Cooperstown complex in a Herkimer County town in 2010, according to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.
Jerry John Arsenault, Jr., 57, and Camille Ann Arsenault, 58, both of Syracuse, were charged with second-degree grand larceny and first-degree defraud, both felonies, after a two-year investigation, officials said.
The investigation began in July 2011 after a Florida-based business contacted the sheriff’s office to report that a $20,000 bad check had been issued by the Arsenaults for bleachers that were delivered to the ballpark on state Route 20 in the town of Warren, officials said.
An additional 19 victims of fraud were discovered with a total owed of $491,237, deputies said.
Deputies said the Arsenaults were arraigned in Cooperstown Village Court and sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bail bond, returnable to Springfield Town Court on Thursday to finish the arraignment.
If convicted, officials said the Arsenaults face up to 15 years in prison.
Anyone else who believes the Arsenaults may have scammed them are asked to call 607-547-4363.
